 Dear neighbors,
Secant pile wall construction starts in Fremont this week. Later this month, we'll start the secant pile wall in Queen Anne. Read on to learn more about the impacts you can expect during this type of construction activity.

Ballard
The slurry wall is complete! Crews are moving slurry wall equipment off site and are preparing to excavate the vertical shaft. Excavating the 120+ ft-deep shaft will take about two months. During this time, you can expect:
- An uptick in truck traffic as soil is hauled off site. Trucks will travel along Shilshole Ave NW to NW 46th St to 14th Ave NW up to NW Market St then north along 15th Ave NW, to Holman Road NW towards I-5.
Working hours are expected to be 7 am - 5 pm Monday through Friday. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.
East Ballard
 Soil stabilization continues (see photo above). Through late December, you should anticipate:

NW 45th St closed to traffic; vehicles must detour onto NW 46th St.

11th Ave NW allowing two-way traffic via one lane controlled by flaggers during work hours.

Burke-Gilman Trail users remain detoured to the north side of NW 45th St; flaggers to help direct traffic. Please follow all detour guidance on site. Bicyclists must cross train tracks at 90-degree angles.
- Noise and vibrations typical of a construction site.
Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.

Fremont
 Crews are completing guide wall construction (see photo above) and secant pile wall construction will begin this week. Secant pile wall construction will last through mid-November. This work will be very noisy. During this time, you should anticipate:
- More heavy equipment on site like a drilling machine, crane and concrete trucks.
- Noise and vibration from the drilling machine. If you live or work within a few blocks of the site, you may be able to feel the vibration in your building. This is expected, and we are monitoring vibration levels on site to ensure they are within allowable levels.
- NW 36th St between Leary Way NW and 3rd Ave NW to be closed (through remainder of the project).
- Pedestrians detoured to the north side of Leary Way NW.
- A pump and bypass system running 24/7 to re-route an existing drainage line around the secant pile construction. This system is powered by a generator and will be in place through the end of the year.
Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.
Wallingford
Crews conducted soil remediation (see photo above). Over the next few weeks, the site will be backfilled, graded and groundwater monitoring wells will be installed. You should anticipate:
- Noise and vibrations typical of a construction site.
- Backfilling trucks and other traffic will use N 35th St and Stone Way.
Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.
Queen Anne
 In late August, crews detoured the Ship Canal Trail into an adjacent parking lot (see photo above). Over the next few weeks, crews will prepare the site for secant pile wall construction. Dewatering wells will also be installed during this time. For the next few weeks, you should anticipate:
- The West Ewing Mini Park parking lot to be closed. This closure is anticipated to last through mid-2023.
- A localized Ship Canal Trail detour through summer 2022. See our previous update for a map.
- Noise and vibrations typical of a construction site.
- Equipment being staged in the area.
Regular work hours will be Monday through Friday, 7 am to 5 pm. Night and weekend work may occur to maintain progress.
